College work

I started my first college year wanting to become an architect so I based all my projects on buildings and anything that I can relate to architecture. However, that changed at the beginning of my second year at college as I changed my career interest to becoming a graphic designer.

For my final pieces, I am very proud of them as I have worked 8+ hours on each piece so I can get as much detail and passion as I can in my work. I always want to create a better piece every time I finish one so I can try and improve any mistakes that I make so I don't make them again in future projects.

In my second year, I am going to try and focus on churches and religion as I am quite interested in how each religion expresses themselves with their different church styles. I especially love the stained glass that most of them provide; they tell such different and fascinating stories and I love how they tell them through painted glass.

Graphic Design work

For the first term of my first year at college I was introduced to the world of graphic design by a specialist graphic design teacher. I have always wanted to do graphics related work but didn't know how to so this opened up a new world that I have been excited to meet for many years.

Year 2

T-shirt Design

The project brief was to design a t-shirt within four weeks and had freedom to choose the colour, design and if we wanted to do the front or back or both.

I choose to do a Nightmare Before Christmas inspired version which highlighted my favourite character Oogie Boogie. I wanted to do a front and back design and made the mock-ups on both black and white t-shirts to see what it would look like on different coloured shirts.

I used Adobe Illustrator to design the designs then Graphicburger and Photoshop to create the mock-ups.

I am really proud on how these turned out as it fitted the vision that I had at the beginning of the four weeks.

Rebranding project

For the second unit of my second year doing Graphic Design, we were given the task of rebranding a small start-up business within Dorset. I chose to rebrand Small World Reptiles as I know the owner and I was able to make work experience out of it.

We had 4 weeks to produce a upgraded version of their logo, a form of advertisement, packeging and some sort of typography. Therefore, I chose to create a new logo as requested, a poster, sticker labels for bugs as the packeging and business cards for typography.

I did struggle with the time limit but that was expected as it was my first proper rebranding project. Even though I struggled I throuroughly enjoyed this unit as I was able to see what my dream job holds.

I wanted to have multiple options for the business cards so I kept the front and back of each card but changed the animal to show the inclusivity of the animals sold and looked after at the shop. For reference images, I used photos that my sister had taken of her own reptiles at home and some of the animals at the shop she voulenteers at.

Fine art work

I started the first year by doing small workshops so I could learn more advanced skills with the medias I chose to work with within the course such as chalk & charcoal, tonal pencil, watercolour paints, lino printing, and collage. I enjoyed these workshops as they allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and get better at the medias I am not so comfortable with like acrylic paint, and oil pastels but also trying to be more messy and spontaneous with my work to keep it less boring and simple. I am still trying to understand but I feel I am getting better at it.

Year 1
